AI assistant for car dealerships: answer mobile.de and AutoScout24 inquiries in minutes
How an AI assistant for car dealerships answers mobile.de and AutoScout24 inquiries in minutes, offers test drives and leaves prices and trade-ins to you.
Key takeaways
- AutoScout24 reports that 63 % of email inquiries to dealers on its German marketplace go unanswered, measured from October to December 2022.
- An AI assistant reads every inquiry from mobile.de, AutoScout24 or your website and replies from your stock in minutes, weekends included.
- It never quotes prices, discounts, financing or trade-in values on its own; those replies always wait for you as drafts.
- Answering a buyer's own inquiry is different from sending them marketing later, which German and Spanish law only allow with consent or an existing customer relationship.
- Automatic replies are switched on after about 14 days; until then the assistant only writes drafts that you approve.
An AI assistant for car dealerships reads the inquiries from mobile.de, AutoScout24 and your website that arrive in your inbox, replies within minutes in your voice using the vehicle data you confirm, and offers test drive slots. It never quotes prices, discounts or trade-in values on its own; those wait for you as drafts. This is how the Verselo AI assistant works, on a dedicated server for your dealership only.
Why does a dealership lose buyers even though the inquiry is already in the inbox?
On a Saturday, several new inquiries arrive while the sales team is busy with customers in the showroom. The usual questions: is the car still there, can I test drive it today, does it have a tow bar, will you take my old car as a trade-in?
None of these emails is hard. But they sit there until someone has a minute, often after closing. By then the buyer may already have written to other dealers.
This is not a one-off. According to AutoScout24, 63 % of email inquiries to dealers on its German marketplace go unanswered (internal measurement, October to December 2022). The marketplace advises dealers to reply quickly, also outside opening hours, and to offer several channels: phone, email and chat.
Typing replies yourself or letting an AI assistant prepare them: what changes for every mobile.de and AutoScout24 inquiry?
Templates save typing. You still read, check stock and suggest the next step yourself. An AI assistant in your inbox takes over exactly that step and leaves the approval to you.
| Situation | You type it yourself | Your own AI assistant |
|---|---|---|
| "Is the A4 Avant still available?" | Reply in the evening | Within minutes: available, two test drive slots to pick from |
| Question about equipment | You search the stock and type | Reply from your vehicle data, in your voice |
| "Will you take my Polo as a trade-in?" | Follow-up question the next day | Asks for registration year, mileage and photos, the value stays with you |
| "What's your best price?" | You reply | Draft ready, you decide |
| Test drive with no reply since | You may notice | It reminds you and the follow-up draft is ready |
| Start of the day | Full inbox | A short note on your phone at 07:30 |
The briefing can show which vehicle inquiries arrived and were answered, which pricing questions need your approval and which test drives are scheduled today.
When a buyer confirms a test drive slot, you see the request with the relevant calendar details on your phone and approve it with one tap.
What can the assistant answer on its own, and what always stays with the salesperson (price, discount, trade-in)?
One wrong figure in an email costs you margin or trust. So the line is clear:
What the assistant answers on its own, once you switch it on:
- Whether a car is still available or already sold
- Equipment, colour, mileage and first registration from your stock
- Your test drive slots; you confirm the booking yourself with one tap
- The details needed for a trade-in: model, first registration, mileage, photos
What always stays with you:
- Every price, every discount and every negotiation
- Every trade-in value
- Financing, lease rates and promised delivery dates
- Anything you mark as sensitive during setup
A made-up example. A buyer writes: "Is the A4 Avant still there? Can I test drive it this afternoon? And what would you give me for my Passat?" The assistant sees in your confirmed vehicle information that the car is available and offers two of your test drive slots. For the Passat it asks for mileage, equipment and a few photos and says you will get back to them with an estimate. It names no figure. For the first two weeks the whole reply sits in your inbox as a draft.

Can a dealership handle inquiries and follow-up emails with AI (GDPR, email marketing rules, AI Act)?
Yes, if three things are in place (as of November 2026, not legal advice):
Replying to the inquiry. Under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR you may process data where it is necessary for steps taken at the request of the data subject before entering into a contract. If a buyer asks about the A4, you may answer him, whether you or your assistant prepares the text. Under Art. 28 you may only use processors that provide sufficient guarantees, bound by a contract. For running the assistant you sign that contract with Verselo. Your own business account with the AI provider that drafts the replies also comes with its own terms.
Following up. Asking whether the test drive went well belongs to the buyer's own inquiry. Marketing is something else. In Germany, § 7(2) no. 2 UWG treats advertising by email without prior express consent as an unreasonable nuisance in every case. § 7(3) allows an exception for existing customers: an address obtained in connection with a sale, similar own goods, no objection and a clear notice that the customer may object. In Spain, Art. 21 LSSI prohibits unsolicited promotional email, with a similar exception for an existing contractual relationship. A newsletter with new used cars to everyone who once asked about a car does not qualify. That is why the assistant only prepares follow-ups on the concrete inquiry, as drafts.
Telling people it is AI. Under Art. 50(1) of the AI Act, providers must design AI systems that interact directly with people so that those people are informed, unless it is obvious. Per Art. 113 the Regulation generally applies from 2 August 2026. Once replies go out automatically, we recommend one short line in the signature.
Where the data lives: the assistant runs on a dedicated server in the EU, for your dealership only. Your emails stay in your mailbox. To draft a reply it sends the text it needs to your AI provider, and it only remembers facts you have confirmed. More on our security page.
How does the assistant become ready for automatic replies within 14 days, and which dealership is it worth it for?
There are four steps:
- A 30-minute call. You tell us how many inquiries come in and how your sales team works today. We tell you honestly whether the assistant is worth it.
- Setup. We set up your server, connect mailbox and calendar and set up your test drive slots and rules. You provide the vehicle information as company knowledge and confirm it. The assistant learns your tone from your sent emails.
- Two weeks of drafts. It only writes drafts. Through the Gmail API, a draft is an unsent message in your mailbox, and it only goes out when you send it. You read along, correct and see how well it handles your buyers.
- It replies on its own. When it fits, you switch on automatic replies one email type at a time. "Is it still available?" then runs on its own, the price question stays a draft.
Your dealer management system stays as it is. The assistant works through your inbox; on the call we check whether you need a connection to your dealer management system. The assistant uses the vehicle data you confirm; during setup we agree how you report stock changes.
When is it not worth it? If you only get a few inquiries a week and answer them all the same day, you don't need an assistant. It is most useful when inquiries come in daily and buyers wait because you are busy in the showroom.
How the assistant follows up with buyers after a quote or test drive is covered in follow up on quotes by email with AI.
Conclusion
An AI assistant for car dealerships answers mobile.de and AutoScout24 inquiries in minutes, offers test drives and reminds you to follow up, even while you are in the showroom. Price, discount, financing and trade-in values always stay with you. Whether it pays off for your dealership is something we work out in a 30-minute call.
Frequently asked questions
Does the AI assistant work with mobile.de and AutoScout24?
Yes, when marketplace inquiries arrive in your inbox by email, including mobile.de and AutoScout24. The assistant works through Gmail, Microsoft 365 or IMAP; on the call we check how your inquiries arrive today.
Will it quote a price or a value for my customer's old car?
No. For a trade-in it asks for model, first registration, mileage and photos and hands you everything in one place. Any reply with a price, discount, financing or trade-in value stays a draft that you approve.
How does it know which cars are still in stock?
The assistant uses the vehicle information you provide and confirm as company knowledge and documents. During setup we agree how you report changes. On the call we check whether you need a connection to your dealer management system.
Can it follow up after a test drive?
A follow-up on the buyer's own inquiry is part of the sale. Marketing email is different: in Germany § 7 UWG and in Spain Art. 21 LSSI require prior consent or an existing customer relationship. The assistant prepares the follow-up as a draft and you decide whether it goes out.
Which dealership is it not worth it for?
If you only get a few inquiries a week and answer them all the same day. It is most useful when inquiries come in every day and buyers regularly wait for a reply, especially on Saturdays and evenings.
